About

I’m a 42 year old who will be running my first marathon on July 24, 2009 in Salt Lake City.  I combine Danny Dreyer’s Chi Running techniques and Jeff Galloway’s walk/run marathon training plan and methods; I would like to refine my running forms in order to achieve enough efficiency to run a marathon without walking every five minutes as Galloway recommends, but I don’t worry about that right now.

I consider running an act of inner freedom and as a teacher whose lessons apply beyond running itself.   Ultimately, running is a lot of fun, at least most of the time, and it enhances and enriches my daily life.

Do you have access to a pool? Injury is a real drag but if you have a pool available to you deep water running is a wonderful alternative. You can check out Pete Pfitzinger’s plan, http://www.pfitzinger.com/labreports/water.shtml and adapt it to your own schedule. And don’t beat yourself up over your form and don’t obsess over it. Look at some of those elite runners. Have you ever seen anything like Paula Radcliff’s head bob? Good luck to you, July 24th is still a ways away.

Thanks for the encouragement and hyperlink about deep water running. I thought my injuries were a thing of the past and started running again, but now find myself limping when I try to run, so I’ll try deep water running.

    Paula Radcliff is amazing!
